Qiqing Lin was born in 1991 in Zhongshan, China. She studied journalism in Wuhan University and received her first job as a research assistant in Beijing at the age of 23. Qiqing migrated to the United States in 2021 and first settled and received her master’s degree in New York, and she moved to Houston in 2023. She is currently a self-employed textile artist and was a resident artist at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in fall 2023. Qiqing has a younger sister, and was married to a Dutch husband who she met in Shanghai while working for a press. In this interview, Qiqing Lin recalled her experiences growing up, receiving education, and working in China before moving to New York City to pursue her master’s degree in textile at Parsons School of design. Qiqing stated her frustration of the situation in her university and her work as a journalist in China. She described the cultural shock she encountered after moving to the US. She explained how she got into weaving and the support she received in the US. She also explained the reason for moving from New York City to Houston, some difficulties she encountered, and her future plans.
