Jackson Chang came to the United States with his family in the early 1970s amid fears that his home nation of Taiwan would be taken over by China. After graduating from high school in San Francisco, Chang followed in his father's footsteps and majored in architecture at the University of Southern California. He then received a master's degree in architecture at the University of Houston in 1984 and entered real estate, motivated by Houston's cheaper capital. He founded the Pan Jackson Company the following year. This interview primarily concerns Mr. Chang's views on Asian involvement in Houston labor, community, and politics.
