BIO

Houn Lee was born in Iksan, South Korea in 1974. He was born to farmer parents and frequently helped with farming on the weekends. In his high school years, he moved to Jeonju alone to pursue his education. Following high school graduation, he attended Jeonbuk University and received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Engineering and Divinity. However, immediately following graduation, he completed his mandatory military service and decided to become a teacher/mentor. In 2005, he migrated to the United States, his wife following soon after, to pursue his passion of teaching young adolescents to become Christian leaders. He moved to Houston, Texas, and is currently employed as a math teacher in HISD. He currently lives with his family, his wife and three kids, in the Bellaire area and is actively involved with the Houston Campus Mission Bible Church. In this interview, Houn Lee discusses his upbringing in the countryside in Korea, his experiences in his education, his changing career path, his experience in the military, his Christian faith, his insights and advice on teaching young adolescents, his kids’ relationship to their Korean heritage, his hopes for Korean communities in the United States, and his life’s wish to become friends with everyone and anyone.
