Rachna Khare is the executive director of Daya, a culturally specific organization dedicated to helping South Asian individuals facing domestic abuse and/or violence. Her interest in Women’s rights/justice and helping those who face domestic abuse developed early on but was further fostered as an adult through her previous employment and work. As executive director, she has funding, budgetary, and programming responsibilities. Before arriving at Daya, she worked in research and held managerial roles at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and the Rice360 Institute of Global Health Technologies, which heavily developed her managerial abilities and provided her with a skillset that was easily applicable to her current work. In this interview, Rachna Khare discusses her roles and responsibilities in the organization, the culturally specific aspects of Daya, how the organization helps individuals facing domestic abuse/violence, and recent developments in Daya.
