BIO

Bao-Long Chu was born in 1967 in Saigon, Vietnam. He, his parents, and his siblings left Vietnam just prior to the Fall of Saigon in April 1975. His family briefly lived in Miami before settling in Galveston in 1976. Since then, Mr. Chu attended college at Houston Baptist University and received his Master’s of Fine Arts from the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program. After getting to know the city better while working as a visiting writer for Writer’s in the Schools, Mr. Chu began working for Houston Endowment as a program director. In this interview, Mr. Chu discusses his memories of leaving Vietnam, his writing, and his thoughts on the dual identity of Vietnamese-Americans.
