Our Vision
The ArcGIS Mapping Project of the Houston Asian American Archive is a curated constellation and cartography to trace the footsteps made by Asian Americans in Houston, reconciling the history with an individual discovery and continual, transnational journey.
The Map
This map represents the Asian American community in the Greater Houston area using data from the following published Houston area Asian American directories, 1940-1986 :
- Chinese American Directory of Greater Houston compiled by the Houston Lodge Chinese-American Citizens Alliance (CACA) 1959-60,
- CACA Telephone Directory Convention Issue 1967,
- CACA Telephone Directory and Business Calendar 1968-69,
- Houston Chinese Directory 1976-77,
- Houston Chinese Telephone Book 1980-81,
- A personal collection of business and residential addresses provided by Dr. Ed Chen
