William Hsueh was born in Chongqing, China in 1945. He eventually moved with his family to Hong Kong in 1951 as a result of the rising Chinese Cultural Revolution. He has a younger sister, older sister, and older brother who have all worked, studied, and lived in different states and countries. While they were in Hong Kong, they were part of a Chinese refugee community and attended a Chinese refugee church. Mr. Hsueh went to Japan for his undergraduate degree in 1963 and graduated in 1967. His return to Hong Kong was cut short because of the continued political turmoil. He then attended graduate school at Purdue University in 1967. He got married in the 1970s in California. He and his wife, Cynthia, lived in West Lafayette, Indiana while he finished his Ph.D. In 1972, he graduated with a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences and then moved on to a research fellow position at Stanford Medical School. Afterwards, he and his wife moved to Taiwan in 1977 for a research position at a new medical school for 2 years. In 1979, he was accepted into the Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis; they ended up staying in St. Louis for 17 years, while he finished his Master of Divinity and served as a pastor in the St. Louis Chinese Gospel Church. Their family decided to settle down in Houston, as he had received a job offer from Houston Chinese Church in 1996. He has been a pastor there ever since and has recently assumed the role of Senior Pastor.
