BIO

Daniel H. Watanabe was born in Los Angeles in 1929. At age six, his family brought him back to Japan where he was brought up in the suburbs of Tokyo during the Second World War. With the American occupation, Watanabe joined the U.S. military and worked as a bilingual specialist with American intelligence throughout the Korean War. After the war, he returned to the States to finish his education and obtained a Ph.D. in Microbiology. He later moved with his lab to Houston’s Baylor College of Medicine and has stayed ever since. Today, he continues to teach as a professor at the Houston Community College.
