BIO

Brandon Tho Harris is an interdisciplinary artist based in Houston who is inspired by his background as a Vietnamese American in his use of photography, video, performance, and installation. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Harris draws upon his identity as a child of war refugees to explore and process intergenerational trauma in relation to the Vietnamese War. Harris examines important themes relating to the Vietnamese diaspora, exploring multi-faceted issues surrounding migration, land, and labor. His work has been featured at the Houston Center for Photography and the Blaffer Art Museum. He is set to graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Art with a concentration in Photography and Digital Media from the University of Houston. He is currently working on a project funded by The Idea Fund and Houston Art Alliance that examines the Vietnamese diaspora in the context of the Houston and Gulf Coast region.

In this interview, Harris spoke of his ancestral legacy especially his grandmother, the journey his earlier generations took to flee the Vietnam War to America as the "boat people", his attachment to Houston and the food it offers; he also spoke of his relationship with Black Lives Matter as this interview was taken right after the death of George Floyd.
